State Representative Linda Lawson was elected in 1998 to serve House District 1, which includes most of her hometown of Hammond, Munster and Whiting.

She attended Indiana University Northwest.

Lawson was the first female  office and the first female captain of the Hammond Police Department.  She has served in various roles over a 24-year period including as a patrol officer and with the sex crimes and domestic violence division. Linda was also a member of the Hammond School Board for 12 years.

She is very active in her community, participating as a member of  various boards and local committees.

Representative Lawson has two daughters and one granddaughter.
